Connecticut still No. 1

NCAA Basketball Betting Lines

02/16/2009 - New York, NY (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Connecticut remained the top team in men's college basketball, earning the No. 1 spot in the Associated Press poll for the third consecutive week.

The Huskies (24-1) beat Syracuse and Seton Hall last week, but lost one first- place vote. UConn received 66 top tallies and total of 1,794 points from a nationwide media panel.

Oklahoma (25-1) picked up the extra first-place vote and now has four with 1,709 total points to remain second. North Carolina notched two first-place votes and again sits third in the poll.

Pittsburgh, which visits Hartford to battle UConn Monday, kept the fourth slot.

Memphis moved up three places to fifth, while Michigan State also crept up three spots to sixth. Louisville, after a 1-1 week, fell two spots to seventh, while Wake Forest dropped one into eighth and Duke -- after losses to North Carolina and Boston College -- tumbled three spots to ninth. Marquette, which also finished 1-1 last week, remained 10th.

Missouri, which before last week was unranked, had the biggest jump within the poll. The Tigers vaulted six spots to 11th.

The remainder of the second 10 consists of Villanova, Clemson, Arizona State, Kansas, Xavier, Gonzaga, Illinois, Purdue and UCLA. The Bruins had the biggest drop within the poll, falling nine places from 11th to 20th after losses at Arizona State and Arizona.

Butler, Washington, LSU, Syracuse and Dayton are the last five teams ranked. Washington, LSU and Dayton are newcomers this week, replacing Utah State, Ohio State and Florida State.

Washington had a two-week stay in the poll before falling out last week, while LSU and Dayton are ranked for the first time this season. LSU, the only SEC team ranked, and Dayton have each won nine of 10.

Utah State had been ranked the past two weeks, but a 66-56 loss at Boise State on Saturday ended the Aggies' 19-game winning streak. Ohio State, ranked earlier this season, had its one-week return halted by a loss at Wisconsin on Saturday, while Florida State was ranked for the first time this season and beat Virginia before a 20-point setback to Wake Forest.

In addition to Monday's Big East showdown between UConn and Pitt, there are only a scant few games this week involving ranked teams facing each other.

Tuesday's marquee matchup comes from the Big Ten as Michigan State visits Purdue, while a Pac-10 battle on Thursday pits Washington at UCLA. On Sunday, Villanova and Syracuse clash at the Carrier Dome in their second meeting this season, and a top-10 tussle in the ACC features Wake Forest at Duke.

Mens NCAA Basketball Tournament odds
As of February 9, MySportsbook.com has released its coveted 2007 Mens NCAA Basketball Tournament betting odds. “March Madness betting ” only a month away, the top ranked Florida Gators are favorite at 7-2 to win it all. The defending champs have not disappointed at all this season and currently have a 22-2 record and are undefeated (9-0) in SEC play. The Gators’ thrive off of their extremely balanced, experienced and versatile attack. All five starters started in last seasons National Championship game. What is most impressive with this group is their balance; the five starters all average between 10.7 and 13.6 PPG. The Gators have been on an absolute roll having won 15 straight by an average of 16.4 PPG.

Right behind the Gators are the 5th ranked UNC Tar Heels at 9-2. The Heels (21-3, 7-2) are absolutely loaded with top notch talent and are as deep as any team in the country. A concern for the Tar Heels might be inexperience. Of their top four scorers/ minute earners, three are freshmen and the other is a sophomore. The rest of the regular season, the Tar Heels play only one team that is currently ranked (Duke). Their remaining opponents do combine for an impressive 107-58 record though.

Other teams that the MySportsbook.com members seem to believe will win it all include the west coasts’ top team #2 UCLA (6-1), #3 OSU behind man-child Greg Oden (8-1), and #4 Wisconsin (10-1) behind their defense which has given up 70+ points only three times all season.

Below is a list of some of the favorites to win the 2007 Men’s NCAA Basketball Championship lines. For the full list of teams and March Madness odds be sure to log onto MySportsbook.com.
